Great Ways to SAVE Everyday!

I am ALWAYS trying to find some easy, simple ways to Save money on everyday things. As you all know I use Coupons on anything there is a coupon available for. From groceries to retail shopping, restaurants, appliance shopping and even things like my oil changes and home improvement/repairs. You would be amazed as to how many coupons are available for all sorts of things in life.

I also cut back on monthly bills. We reduce and remember to do things like recycle (this allows me to get the .05 deposit I pay per bottle of soda). Read more on how to save money on your monthly utility bills HERE

My husband and I also try to save money by DIY (doing it yourself). We saved money in the years past by painting our own home, installing our own new toilet, and more. Check out some creative ways to save money by DIY HERE

Now let's get to why I created this post. LOL. I have even more SIMPLE ways to save some money in your daily life.

TIP #1

We live in a condo, which means that we have to share our laundry facility and we also have to pay $1.25 per wash and per dryer load. For a family of 4 (with 2 very active children), that money adds up week after week. There are times that the laundry adds up and a load here and there gets put in that might be a bit too large for the dryer or sometimes our dryer tends to not dry clothes in one cycle. So that also will make our "laundry" bill a bit larger. If you wait for the dryer cycle to end and then notice that your clothes did not dry completely you will have to pay an additional $1.25 to run the dyer again for 55 minutes. BUT..if you check on your load of clothes before your 55 minutes is up you can add an additional .25 and it will add an extra 10 minutes to your dry time. As long as you don't let the dryer time run out completely you can save money by just adding an extra quarter, which you most likely would only need that extra 10 minutes of dryer time to get your clothes completely dry. This tip may not be needed for everyone, but for those of you who use the laundromat, this tip may help you.

TIP #2

This next tip is something I am surprised as a seamstress I didn't think of a long time ago. I have 2 young children and it gets rather expensive to buy them new pajamas season after season cause they have outgrown the ones from the year before. What I do now is I take their winter cotton pajamas, ones similar to Disney PJ's or even Carters or Gymboree PJ's and I cut them. I know sounds crazy right, but here is what I do. My daughter is currently in a size 5 and she still will be a size 5 when its time for spring/summer pj's. So instead of me going out to buy her pajama short sets. I just take her already loved long pants and long sleeve shirt winter pajama sets and cut them into shorts and short sleeve shirts. Then I just sew a hem on the sleeves and shorts and we are good to go. Don't get me wrong, we do buy new clothes for the kids, but doing this means I just have to buy less.

TIP #3

What do you do with your ratty old t-shirts? Do you just toss them out? Well your throwing money away! We use them in this house as rags to help clean around the house and I even cut them up and use them to clean the inside of the car. Which is great, especially in the winter, cause it would take a whole roll of paper towels to clean the inside of our mini-van. Cut up all your old t-shirts, instead of tossing them and put them to good use. Soon it will be spring cleaning time and you won't have to worry about using up your last roll of paper towels or having to run out to get some.

TIP #4

I love birthday and Christmas time! Not just for what's inside all those gift boxes and bags, but its the actual bags and tissue paper that are great. Saving tissue paper you receive inside gifts will save you money in the future. This way you can use it to wrap all those presents you will be handing out throughout the year. I have a large bag in our pantry that has various gift bags, ribbons/bows and tissue paper that we have gotten and will re-cycle and re-use to give to others.

If you just utilize 1 or 2 of these simple tips you can save yourself at least enough money for a great family dinner out, but I am sure you could save alot more.

The Boob Tube..My Favorites!!

I have come to realize that I spend more time than I probably should watching TV. I know they say it is not good for you, but I just can't help it. After a day of errands, paying bills, driving the kids to and from school, cleaning the house and cooking, all I truly wanna do is get back into my PJ's, curl up on the couch with my favorite TV companion (that would be my husband) and scroll through our DVR (my favorite TV companion does NOT like to watch REAL TV..he likes to be able to fast forward through the useless commercials) and pick what shows we are gonna watch for the night. Seriously sometimes I can't believe how many shows we follow throughout the week. I will say that I am very lucky that my companion enjoys the same shows I do or I am sure that would make for a very interesting nightly routine fighting over shows.

So what shows are "must have's" in our DVR? We are big REALITY TV Junkies. So you will find episodes of American Idol, Kitchen Nightmares or Cake Boss. I love BUDDY!!!! We even got our 3 year old into watching Cake Boss.

We love COP shows as well. Criminal Minds..who doesn't love the blood and guts and scary jump out of your skin shows. We follow CSI and both NCIS shows. Our new favorite of this year is Blue Bloods. I admit the first aired show was horrible. I wasn't planning on jumping on the wagon to continue to watch this series, but I gave it a second take and I am now hooked. Donny Wahlberg is great as the ball busting lead detective who will not take no for an answer.

I try to hide the fact that the silly 30 minute Sitcoms that Hubby MUST watch are actually really really funny. I am not sure why I still pretend I don't like them. I will say I am not a fan of a show that is only 30 minutes long and tends to just repeat the same concept over and over again, but they are TRULY FUNNY and I find myself laughing harder the more I watch them. Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother are his favorites.

But here it is....My ALL TIME Favorite show to watch and can not miss.....Drum Roll Please....
Parenthood. I have never seen a show that I have been able to relate to so much. This show is REAL. It has real issues that families face on a daily basis. It is the first show that openly educates society about Autism/Asperger's. It show's in truth what a family of a child with Autism/Asperger's goes through in real life. The challenges, the hurdles, the pain, the pride..all of it. Parenthood also attack's how rough the economy is, the stress this brings to a family. It share's the struggles a single parent has trying to raise her children, keep a job and pay the bills. It embraces a family that the wife/mother is the bread-winner and the father is the stay at home parent. This series is able to touch so many people on all different levels of society, different cultures, no matter what status you are, you will find something in this show that you can relate to. Parenthood is a show about a large family that includes a set of grandparents, 4 adult children and their families. I want I LOVE about this show is no matter what problems arise in each family, at the end of almost every episode they all go to the grandparent's house to have "Sunday" dinner and spend precious time together. If you haven't seen it you HAVE to. It airs on NBC on Tuesday's at 10pm EST. Go HERE to check it out online.

**This post is not sponsored by anyone, it just me sharing with you how I feel about all my favorite shows...oh and the ones I pretend to not like too LOL**

Bacon, Bacon and More Bacon....

YUMMY

In our house, bacon is the one thing we can ALL agree on. Both my kids love it and just that alone is an amazing feat. Unfortunately bacon is one of those items that is priced way above my budget. So we rarely get a chance to have it in the house. Coupons for bacon are also rare and when they do come out they are not very good. But guess what....?? This week at Market Basket bacon is on sale for $1.99

This is a WOW price and definately a price I can live with. I will be stocking up on some bacon. My family is about to get very happy when I return from the grocery store tomorrow.

Retail Therapy: A Cure for Cabin Fever

No this isn't my car. LOL. I would need more than Retail Therapy to deal with that. But this is how it feels here in New England. The snow is never ending. It is so bad right now, that the weight of the snow and ice on roofs has resulted in over 90 roof collapses in Massachusetts. It's so scary around here. So with all this snow and bad news, I need a way to feel better. What better way than heading to the mall with my Mother. She needs some new clothes for her upcoming April Cruise and I need some clothes for our May Disney Trip.

I love all the bargains I can get at JCPenney. We will definately be heading here. From what I hear they have a ton of childrens clothing on clearance, so I will be taking a peek at those for the kiddos.

Up To 20% Off Coupon valid February 6-7 and is a printable coupon
15% Off expires 2/27/11 and is a printable coupon
$10 Off $50 valid until March 10, 2011 and is a printable coupon

If your feeling Cabin Fever taking over, print off these coupons and have a good time shopping this weekend.

My Shaw's Trip 2/3

Most of you reading this blog already know that buying multiples of an item when its at its cheapest, is the BEST way to stock up on item's you use all the time so you NEVER have to pay full price for them. If you shop like this, yes you will put out more money at the beginning but it will pay off after time. You will have enough of that product to last you until the next sale. This is how I shop.

As I posted previously Shaw's was having a CAT deal. Purchase $20 in select products and recieve a $10 Coupon to use on your next order. This deal is calculated on Pre-Sale Prices and before any coupons are used.

I did 3 transactions

Transaction 1
6 Skippy Peanut Butter
French's Spicy Mustard
3 Del Monte Diced Tomato
Coupons Used:
(3) .75/2 Skippy (DOUBLED)
1.00/1 Frenchs Mustard
Total: 9.87
Got back $10.00 CAT

Transaction 2
8 Yoplait Light Yogurt Cups
8 Yoplait Original Yogurt Cups
12 Del Monte Diced Tomatoes
Coupons Used:
(2) .50/4 Yoplait Original (DOUBLED)
(2) .75/4 Yoplait Light (DOUBLED)
$10.00 CAT Coupon
Total: 2.72
Got Back $10.00 CAT

Transaction 3
4 Skippy Peanut Butter
10 Contadina Sauce
Coupons Used:
(2) .75/2 Skippy
$10.00 CAT Coupon
Total: 2.90
Got Back $10.00 CAT

So I paid a total of $15.49 Out of Pocket and still have a $10 CAT Coupon to use on next week's sale.

I have to give a BIG THANK YOU to my Sister In Law for giving me some of her Skippy coupons, cause the ones I was waiting on never arrived.

THANK YOU
